About Banana George

George Blair, known as “Banana George,” was the world’s most colorful entrepreneur–and not just because he dressed in yellow from head to toe, but because his personality was larger than life itself. George left the corporate world in the 1950’s to start his own business, Fogging Unlimited. A short time later, he started Hospital Portrait Service, capturing pictures of newborn babies in hospitals. The business grew worldwide. In 1956, while recovering from spinal fusion surgery, George water skied for the first time. He was so enthralled with this new sport that he immediately purchased a boat and learned everything he could about the sport. He opened yet another business, The Family Ski School in two locations in New Jersey.

Six years later, George ditched the water skis and learned to barefoot. This new skill took him around the world as he gave exhibitions in ski shows. George became the only person to barefoot water ski on all seven continents. Passionate about healthy food and healthy living, George gave out bananas everywhere he went. Chiquita supplied him with tons of bananas each year. “It’s nature’s most perfect food,” George often said. As George grew older, he simply became bolder. He never stopped learning or trying new things. When he was in his 80’s, he went skydiving, rode a camel across the desert, drove a race car, learned to surf, and took up snowboarding. “I don’t wait for the next thing, I make the next thing happen!” George said.
